Scientific Activities
Research activities of the department staff is focused on the issues of applying economic and mathematical methods and modern information systems to organizing and managing economic objects.
During 2003–2005 the following research theme was developed by the department staff: “Information and mathematical decision-making in managing financial and economic activities of the Ukrainian economic system entities”. Today the Department does research into the following theme: “Decision-making optimization in managing financial activities of business entities”. In addition, lecturers conduct individual research. Namely, in 2008 the research was conducted in the following areas:
- Economic and mathematical modelling of economic processes and phenomena;
- Mathematical (classical) studies;
- Mathematical models in sciences;
- Software development for studying the use of standard computer software packages for performing special tasks in economics, mathematics and sciences.
The Department operates a students' research society investigating the following problems:
- The use of information technologies for studying social and economic phenomena;
- The use of mathematical models for economic research.
The society membership is open both to senior students and to beginners who have just started their scientific research work: I.A.Babiy, N.S.Huk, I.B.Domchak, M.M.Kurus, M.V.Parkhuts, O.I. Petrytska, M.V.Plevako, B.A.Tereta, T.N.Yakymyuk. They do theoretical research as well as make developments of an applied character, software in particular. Students' software products developments found their application in the work of separate LSAF subdivisions. In this way the automation of separate areas of the dean's office, Personnel department and the library has been carried out.
The students actively participate in scientific conferences and national student research competitions. In 2008 two students' scientific research papers performed under the supervision of the department's lecturers, were awarded the 3d prize diplomas by the competition committee.
