Foreign Languages Department
The Department of Foreign Languages as a separate structural subdivision of Lviv State Academy of Finance began its activity in 2001. From the very beginning the department was headed by docent Dzhulyk Olha Ivanivna, senior teacher Malynovska Halyna Romanivna became the vice-head of the department.
The academic staff of Foreign Languages Department consists of 14 teachers: 2 docents, 7 senior teachers, 5 assistants (the data of 2009).
The teachers of English are:

The directions of the methodical work of the department:
· the choice of optimal forms of education;
· the use of advanced technologies in teaching foreign languages;
· the introduction of modern interactive means of education;
· the improvement of pedagogical skills of teachers;
· the development of modern effective means and methodical ways of education;
· the formation of general and professionally oriented communicative speaking competences (linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic) in students;
· the formation of general competencies (declaratory knowledge, skills and abilities, the competence of existence and the ability to study) in students.
Scientific and methodical seminars are held regularly, the most common themes are: “Terminological vocabulary of economic direction”, “Economic terms in professional communication”, “Audiovisual means of education in teaching foreign languages”, “The use of Smartboard in educational process”.
As to scientific and methodical work the teachers of the department cooperate with such foreign information centers: “British Council” (the English language), the scientific-research center of FRG, the Institute named after Göthe (the German language), French methodical and informational center in Lviv.
An active use of didactic materials of the Internet resource base by the teachers of the department increases the efficiency of learning foreign languages and allows students to broaden their vocabulary stock and to use it in everyday communication.
Education and methodical store of the department includes sets of study manuals in foreign languages from the leading publishing houses of the world, reference literature, interactive dictionaries and periodic publications, appropriate programmed supply for learning foreign languages with the use of PC, as well as text-books, study manuals and methodical works of the teachers.
The department has at its disposal sets of video and audio courses for different levels of education.
Deep and manysided training in foreign languages allows our graduates to perform their professional duties without the assistance of translators/interpreters during their work with foreign partners.

The main trends of the research work:
intensification of student's research work;
contribution to the development of capability for self-rating and the ability for individual work, which will allow students to continue their education in academic and professional field both during studies in the Academy and after receiving the diploma of higher education.
The teachers of the department are engaged in working out and introducing general theme of the department: “Urgent problems of modern linguistic investigations and the use of innovative technologies of teaching foreign languages in higher schools of economic direction”. State registration number: 0108U000685.
The investigation consists of three stages:
1. The development of methodology of teaching foreign languages according to the demands of the Bologna declaration;
2. The study of collected material on the basis of certain methods of teaching foreign languages;
3. Preparation of research materials for publication, publishing methodical recommendations.

The teachers of the department make reports at different international scientific conferences, publish articles and hold seminars on the problems of methods of teaching foreign languages and the problems of foreign philology, as well as issue collections of tests and exercises, which are used in the educational process.
The teachers take an active part in supervising students' research work. Every year the Academy holds a scientific conference for students and post-graduates, where students have a possibility to deliver reports on their achievements in research work in foreign languages.
Today the attention of the Academy administration and the head of the department is aimed at creating appropriate conditions for conducting short-term and long-term scientific training of teachers at foreign higher schools.
Students also have a possibility to work at “Polyglot”, the students' scientific circle of the department.
